Blake Clough Waterfall

Blake Clough Waterfall
Quite a spectacular waterfall here seen from the lane up to the top Wessenden Reservoir near Marden. The Pennine Way runs just above this. The rocky pool at the bottom is known as a place where one can take a 'skinny dip!' Of course this scene is probably much better than it would normally be, after weeks of torrential rainfall here. The height here, I would estimate 50-100ft (15-30m)

As usual, best full screen.

I like your main shot very much Herb but the PiP is fantastic! What a great overview with the contrasting areas of countryside. Cheers, Rosa.

Thanks Rosa, it was a cold windy walk but we had coffee and sandwiches just a few hundred yards higher on our track here. I never noticed the waterfall on the way up. My wife EWileen saw spotted this on the way back down. Glad you liked the view.

There is a lot of rain up here, hence all the reservoirs, it all has to get to the valleys and tghis results in some waterfalls of course on the steeper parts.

An impress set of falls which look beautiful tucked away amidst the trees. You've captured the water movement and the detail in the trees perfectly Herb.

The wider view in the PiP, puts the falls in context nicely and I like the contrast between the green of the foreground and the earthy colours of the landscape in the background.

A view I would have missed if not for Eileen. I was not quite prepared to try the very muddy track to get closer but this spot here for me and my camera sufficed. Maybe if I was alone, I would have gone? Glad you liked it and if you have rarely walked the moors, then it is quite special.

Thanks Maurice. Maybe, maybe not -it is somewhat hidden and even this high view, is easily missed as explained in my replies above. Hikers following the Pennine Way would also completely miss this from above and then it would be behind them, so even though a lot of walkers around here - even on our walk here in February -not a lot of photographing me thinks.

Hi Toz, well worth a visit for you. We parked on the reservoir lane just before the first reservoir (Butterley) There is a bit of a layby there where people can park easily. Copy these coods into GE: 53°35'35.27" N 1°55'39.86" W
The lane is called Wassenden Road. If you parked at the station you would have quite a bit more walking added on.- Glad you liked it. Regards, Herb
