Fog Bow over Dovestones.

Fog Bow over Dovestones.
A walk in these most strange misty conditions allows me to capture a glimpse of this Fog Bow at my local walking area. This is made up of Ice Crystals reflecting light. I have only seen this once before and that was in a very cold Sweden. In the foreground we can see that the reservoir is extremely low after many months of drought conditions revealing long submerged tree stumps. PiP

Thanks Lothar. I had never thought to see such a thing near my home. I was in Gothenburg when I saw one of these last and took a nice photo of that too. Maybe I shall post it here sometime. Glad you liked it.

A amazing and I would think rare sight you are finding some great weather conditions, up to now we haven't had the rainfall to replenish the reservoirs, enjoy the rest of your weekend Herb
5 years ago.
Herb Riddle club has replied to Peter Castell club
Hi again Peter. All in all, there has just been two days of magnificent weather for me since this Dec 4th, the other being just a few days back on the 23rd of this month. As you know, its just a matter of timing! Both days bringing joyous photographic rarities, this being one of them. This reservoir, on my last look, a couple of weeks back was very much filling up -I would say 75-80% after the month of wet weather here so this stump, well and truly under water again. Glad you liked it.

This is a first for me Herb............I've heard of fog bows, but never seen one!

Even without the fog bow it would have been a beautiful scene , but now it's been really ratcheted up a notch. Wonderfully ethereal..!!

I also like the dark rocks and tree stump.............I'm thinking they would be perfect for some close up "detail" shots :-)
Herb Riddle club has replied to Keith Burton club
Ha ha, another fog-bow virgin! Well, I am really glad to bring this phenomena to your attention Keith. A link now, above, to further inform you. I last saw one of these on my quick visit to the Swedish town of Gothenburg. and I had to do a double take to see if it was really there. It was, but only for seconds. As you say a great scene even without it, and so I took many other shots too but I can do nothing with all those now, after this one! As said to Peter (above) the res now filling up fast and so these stumps gone until the next drought -maybe this year too? As I was running around like a madman taking dozens of sun and mist shots, the last thing I had time for was close-ups as well, but you have a point there. Ah well!

Glad you enjoyed it so. Best Wishes, Herb

Herb Riddle club has replied to Sarah P. club
Thanks Sarah, I have not heard of a Moon bow (but I have heard and done a Milky Way bow). I believe a lot of conditions have to come together for one of these fog bows, in particular below freezing temps. Glad you enjoyed this an sorry fir late reply. Herb

A great image, Herb. It's many years since I saw a fog bow and you've captured it beautifully. Interesting that there's been drought over there also, though at least it's given you an interesting foreground.

I was fortunate that it stayed around long enough for me to grab a photo, Herb. I'll post the result here today. Unfortunately I did not have a wide angle lens at the time, so it's only a partial bow.
