White Pass, Yukon Route train

White Pass, Yukon Route train
The little 'Inside Passage' town of Skagway in Alaska is the starting terminus of this very old and famous railroad. The narrow gauge railroad began construction in 1898 during the Klondike Gold Rush as a means of reaching the goldfields. Here we see it returning from those high mountain goldfields with its historical trucks of modern tourist.

Thanks Jaap. A re-look at some of my Alaska trip in 2016 reminded me that I had not posted many of my none-landscape shots. So here we have some of the story of this railroad that unfortunately we did not travel on. Hope you got to see the PiPs too.

I liked this little railway Toz, it had a honourable history pity I did not have the time to do two trips here. We chose the hike and rafting up/down the Chilkoot Trail instead.

Hi Steve, I know that you are into old railway's too and thought this might be of some interest to you. There were quite a few railway bits of paraphernalia around here with a yard & turntable nearby too. Glad you enjoyed the mini-series.

Hi Peter, always great to see you here enjoying my work and travels. It all felt a little like walking into a museum but the trains and system was very much a present day thing. The old train and maybe the snow-plough too was just museum pieces for the many cruise-ship tourist who visit here as there is hardly no other way in. One long lonely road, no airport. all comes really by water.

All my greatest pleasure Füßun. I take holidays for pure enjoyment, geographical/historical enlightenment and having the ability through my pictures to share what I have seen and learned with people such as yourself.

Best Wishes, Herb
