Tarn Hows, jewel of the Lake District

Tarn Hows, jewel of the Lake District
The word Tarn is another word for a small lake. We have a few of these here in the Lake District and this is perhaps the most beautiful and also hence the most popular. Its easy to get to with ample near parking and even a wheelchair path that goes all around the lake now. For me, its been quite a few years since I last visited but its charms still hold true. Enjoy

That was quick Nick. A trip to the Lakes invariably lets me bring home a handful of landscape shots, this particular week end not letting me down, Keep well, Herb

What a wonderful day in the Lake District, Herb. Beautiful view. It's good to know that this tarn is easily accessible and that it's possible to do a round trip on foot. So many of the lakes are inaccessible.
A jewel of a photo.

Thanks a lot Amelia. I have found over the last few years that our Lake District waters are mostly very accessible, but, that is sometimes by very rough footpaths. On the other hand I have found lakes in Scotland and Wales to be sometimes impossible to get to, or walk around, because of adjacent private land or having to be an being an expert hiker. Thats life I suppose.

You need a refresher Andy. Only problem now is that its just so crowded in the main places even here in January the footpath around this Tarn was teeming. I know that Spain also has Glorious countryside. I loved the Picos which I visited many years ago now. Herb

Hi Marek, always good to see you here. yes, a very pleasant area but this spot is for 'softies'. The Lake District has some real hiking and dramatic scenery higher up.

What beautiful colours being February, Herb. Same here today, but we wait for bad weather in the next days.

Hi Daniela, yes we waited weeks to find two days together when the weather was to be fine and this was the first. Later the next day, the heavens opened again. Our Winter has been much warmer than usual with hardly any snow at all in my part of England.
