Slough

Slough
Slough, the surface horny layer of snake skin, which they shed several times during the year - they change clothes. When changing, the horny layer on the lips is torn, and then the snake, crawling between the branches or stones, is pulled out of the so-called shirts.
I find this snake shell every year in the fall outside the door of my cottage.

I have no idea, Keith. Anyway, I wouldn’t like to meet her “live”.

How kind of the serpent that it leaves you her discarded skins.
You can make beautiful women's bags out of it...

The size of that snake has to be quite appreciable. Have a nice sunday

... a shot of nature ... by examining the remains of belly scales and the upper scales, a local herpetologist should be able to identify your resident snake ... (I did a google-search, but it wasn't much help: maybe a whipsnake, or a grass snake if the is any water or marsh nearby) ...
