Nick the scary part happened well before this most of this shot is smoke and colour from the few flames. the scary part is when we started off again and i lost the road all i had was the view of the while line at the edge of the road right in front of the car i could not see 2m ahead. yes it was a every slow trip in the smoke.

Andy most of the shot is smoke would have been great to see it in full swing but they would not have let you stop. next best thing you could not leave the safety of the road though. all the wood burning and could have been some under ground as well the real danger. i was only praying the fallen trees where not on the road.

Amazing and scary! The smoke must have been lying rather low or you couldn't have seen the stars.

You are right it was only 9 c even though the wood was alight so that compounded the smoke problem. yes it was cold even here.

The real dangerous part was long over burning the undergrowth, this is the left overs that just smolder on for a few days. a lot of the area has not been burnt off in 29 years but a huge start to the fire season next year.
