Naja, damit allfällige Flüssigkeiten abfliessen können. Regen (man kann sie ja auch im Freien hinstellen), ausgeleerte Getränkedosen, etc. Dazu kommt, dass sie ev. so stabiler sind als eine ganze Schale; es kommt weniger zu Spannungsrissen bei grösserer Belastung.
