This past week has been a busy one; the only day I didn't do any overtime was Wednesday. Lately, this is a very slow day for picking, and customers on site too. Not sure why...
The one day, I was putting so much chocolate in the one crate that I was staggered. I must have picked at least 20 packs of chocs, at 4 in a pack, that's over 80 chocolate bars! What kind of people buy this much chocolate? They also had a lettuce. It was crying quietly in the corner of the crate along with a single loaf of bread. The rest of the crate was chocolate bars and packs of jelly sweets. Good grief!
My late start for Friday didn't happen, again lol. I was asked to come in early on overtime, though I arranged it so that I still managed to have a lie-in, just not a big one. It all helps. A plus side of working later on the Friday was that short-dated items had an even bigger reduction on them. I bought half price free-range chicken – an absolute bargain! Half-price turkey mince, and half price free-range chicken fillets. I never buy these at full price as they’re simply too dear though always stock up when I see them on offer. On top of the reduction, I then get the staff discount, so they’re very good value.
Due to pension 'difficulties' I asked if there were any more hours I could add to my contract. A colleague left recently, and 2 others have dropped their weekend hours. I let it be known that I'd like more hours, even if only on the weekends; a lot of people don't like working the weekend presumably because they have children. I'll happily take on more hours. The manager said to leave it with him, and he'll look into it. Fingers crossed... I'm already booked to work 5 hours extra this weekend, and the next one too, though additional hours on my contract would help the pension situation.
Recently, I’ve noticed a rise in the number of people wearing a face mask in the supermarket, mostly customers, though some staff too. It doesn’t bother me. If it makes people feel better and safer, then fine. What bothers me is people treating us like lepers, expecting to have the whole aisle to themselves, and scuttling away like a scalded cat if we enter the aisle that they’re in; it’s insulting! If people are that worried, they should get us to pick their orders. Small rant over LMAO
Well, Sunday’s overtime of 3 hours didn’t happen; lack of drivers so a cap was put on the orders allowed. Frankly, my feet are grateful. After a 7-hour shift Saturday (lack of pickers) they were aching so much. So, my feet are happy, my wallet not so much. There’ll be more I’m sure, another day.
I keep forgetting this: A few weeks ago, I was driving to work, and had to do a double-take as I passed the school grounds. It looked for all the world like 5 kids had been impaled on the chain-link fence at the bottom of their field. A slow drive-by later, and I could see they were made of cloth. How weird is that? Each week, more ‘kids; have been added, and now there’s around 15 kids ‘impaled’ on the fence. Strange…
Hot here! My car says it was 22C before lunch, however there’s no breeze so it feels hotter. Can’t remember when I last had a good nights’ sleep. Take care if out and about, keep hydrated, and covered.

That sounds really weird and rather scary - the impaled children on the fence. What's all that about?
Very warm here today too - it actually rose to 26C and the window is wide open in my lounge - I considered going out into the garden, but it's a suntrap so I would have become very uncomfortable in no time.
It's concerning pension contributions. Some months I don't earn enough to stay in the pension scheme in full. It's quite complex though my manager did say he'd have a look at my letter about it. No, the UK is very bad at 'leveling up' pensions and needs to pay pensioners more money, especially now.
I did a double-take, really. It's quite distracting, near a major road.
Yes, do take care outside Jenny. No breeze here which made it very uncomfortable. My bedroom got up to almost 26C last night. Blech!
The fence thing is weird. Probably the school making some "statement". Let us know if you ever find out.
Your temps sound pleasant to me. I wouldn't need the air conditioner if it stayed at 22-26. Well, 26 its getting there if its not bereezy with some cloud cover. Yesterday and today were around 26 and I didn't bother with it. Just the ceiling fans. Something else you don't have that I don't understand why. Tomorrow and the near future will be aroud 30ish. Ill be using the a/c.
I know, it's cool compared to some places though it's getting pretty hot compared to normal UK temps. Once it's over 20C I don't care for it. Hay fever has been bad so far despite taking meds for it.
No AC or fans in most house here unless you're well off. Many homes don't have any insulation either. I swear this house doesn't have any. Too hot in summer, too cold in winter. Too costly to have installed, mostly. The UK is an expensive country to live in IMO, and getting worse! I seriously often wonder why so many are so desperate to come here.
