… bites the dust.

This week I found out that yet another young colleague has left. Apparently, they’ve been off sick more than they’ve been in, and with a few exceptions, some of younger staff don’t seem to have a very good work ethic. They’re often admonished for talking for minutes at a time when they should be working and I confess, sometimes it does make me see red when I think I’m being paid the same as them though seem to be working harder. Oh well. The ones that complain about the overtime make me laugh, in an ironic way; they complain there’s only overtime when it suits the company. Well, yes, that’s the way business works. We work when we’re needed, not simply when we want to.

This week, if all goes to plan, I’ll have worked just over 6 hours overtime. It’s quite a lot, though pales compared to the 10 hours overtime I have scheduled for the week before Christmas lol. I’m going to work all the hours they offer me over Christmas and New Year, just like last year, in the knowledge that I have a week off booked for early January. That’ll be well deserved by then and will in fact be 9 days in total. Nice!

Still having lots of technical issues in work this week, and it’s a pain. We’re on a new system, a few weeks before Christmas! Madness.

The home front has been okay. My son is a tad better though he has strict instructions to contact the surgery if things worsen, but so far, so good. The Ship’s Dog doesn’t eat enough, despite bribes, though he does seem happy in himself and wants walks, and fuss. He was funny the other night; I’d washed his bowls and put down fresh water and he was stood in the kitchen looking at them. My son went out to see what was bothering him, and it transpires I’d put his water bowl on the right instead of the left of his food bowl. As soon as my son switched them, he drank a load of water. Funny dog! He did have a slight mishap this week in that I walked him with no issues, the dog not my son LMAO, though on our return, I noted some ‘dirt’ on the carpet. I touched it and found it was blood. The dog was trailing blood all over the living room from a small wound on his foot. I quickly put him in the garden, put some stuff down on the bloody carpet, then bathed his foot in slightly salted water. He had to stay in the kitchen until it stopped bleeding whilst I set to, cleaning the carpet. Good grief! He’s okay, and my son suspects he was dragging his one foot, and made it bleed. He’s old…

This week we decided to try a Chinese takeaway. It took ages to be delivered and wasn’t as hot as I would have liked. It was nice enough, though later, there was the usual reaction; far too much salt and garlic, and grease too. I was awake every couple of hours and was drinking water all night to counteract the salt. We don’t use much salt at all, very little garlic – mainly my son, and we rarely fry anything. Not trying to be healthy, it’s just we don’t care for it. Anyway, we’ve had 2 Indian takeaways, and now 2 Chinese takeaways in three and a half years, and I very much doubt we’ll do it again. How people eat that kind of food on a regular basis is quite beyond me.

It's turned very cold here now. Plenty of wind, rain too, some of it very heavy, and this afternoon (Friday) we had a hailstorm. It’s only November and I’m already fed up with being cold. It’s going to be a long winter…
