Long time readers may remember that when I moved into this rental, I commented on the astronomical amount that we had to pay as a deposit. Frankly, it was huge! Today, I came home to a letter and a nice big cheque. Initially I thought it was a bill and my heart sank I don’t mind telling you, then I noted it was payable to me. The attached letter stated that a cap had been placed on deposits last year, and this cheque was for an overpayment charged by the agent. It’s into 3 figures, and very well received.

I’d planned to go grocery shopping straight from work – wait for it – but detoured home because I’d forgotten a bonus points voucher. I quickly got the voucher, opened the mail and found the cheque mentioned above and did a very nice shop; topped up on wine too and a bottle of whisky that we like that was a third off. So, a WooHoo on that front. The car had a nice big drink of petrol that’s also been reduced recently. The other letter was from the council detailing new upcoming payments as my son won’t be a student much longer, and I’ll no longer get the discount. Ho hum. We knew it was coming…

So, work. The jury people state I must attend jury service in late June; however, their own site states most jury trials have been postponed for now. I’ve emailed to ask for clarification as they are contradicting themselves, and I stated this in the email. With that in mind, I applied for a position at a different supermarket last Wednesday, had an interview Thursday and was offered the job, had an induction Saturday, and started work on Tuesday. Phew! Third times a charm? Lol. I start at 6am which I much prefer to working later in the day, I work 4 hours until 10am, and it’s for 3 days a week, set hours it seems which is so much better than the previous job. I’m a personal shopper which means I don’t have much interaction with the customers unless they ask me where anything is. As a newbie, I’m not much help on that score, though I do like the shopping. I’ve done my first week, and it’s a tad rushed, though I like it so far. The job is only temporary, no uniform yet, and we won’t get the staff discount which is a shame. Anyway, we’ll see how it goes, though I do worry that once I tell them when my jury service starts, they may simply let me go. The price I may have to pay for doing my ‘civic duty.’ I’m hoping the jury trials will be delayed for some time, and maybe by then I’ll have finished this temp job anyway. Fingers crossed…

The sun is shining for all it’s worth, and the temperatures are rising steadily here to the point where sleep is again uncomfortable. This week, I’ve only had one decent night so far and it’s not forecast to get any cooler. Shouldn’t complain; at least waiting in line for the supermarket it’s nice and dry. I queued one time in the rain and it was miserable.

Enjoy what’s left of the week and have a good weekend. Stay safe.
