Recently, I’ve had 2 interviews for the same supermarket, different branches. The first interview went very well, so I thought, though I never heard back from them. The supervisor had been on leave, but she’s now supposedly been back for 5 days; no news means no job as far as I can tell.

The second interview was today, Saturday. I was a little apprehensive, though they seem to work off the same ‘game plan’ so I knew what the questions would be, and I was able to answer fully and constructively. We had a little chat at the end, as before, then he advised how many hours they’d offer - 18 per week and was I good with that. As far as I’m concerned, those are great. He went on to advise when I’d be in for an induction, at which point I asked him to clarify; were they offering me a job now? The answer was yes. Fantastic!

I could either work on counters including pizza prep, oh not again… I mentioned my previous encounters with the pizza sealing machine and singeing my forearms, so he offered me the café. Initially I’ll be working on the shop floor, doing what needs doing, but once the café is up and running again, after this d*mn virus has gone, I’ll be working in the café. I’m destined to work in food prep LMAO.

Anyway, I’ve already sent off documents to prove I am who I say I am, and all being well, they hope to have me in for an induction (paid) next week, and to get me in and working asap. Works for me. Hopefully this will suit me better than my previous supermarket experience, and if I can sit it out until at least I get my state pension, then it’ll be fine with me. If we move away, there’s always the chance that I could transfer to another store, though a job could well keep me here if I like the work and the staff. If my son moves away, I’d simply move to a smaller rental. Time will tell.

So, some good news, for me anyway, in these mad times.
