"Early In the Morning" aka "She Let's Her Hair Down" or a bracketed combination of those titles started with a 1968 Miss Clairol television commercial and resulted in a well known song. Who recorded the tune first as a single is hotly debated. The title itself is also the cause of confusion with releases of different songs titled as "Early In The Morning".

The first "She Lets Her Hair Down (Early In The Morning)" (Leon Carr - Paul Vance) I could find issued, as confirmed by Second Hand Songs, was in May, 1969 by Brainstorm, not the Detroit, German or Latvian bands.

Brainstorm lead singer Don Young also recorded "Early In The Morning" as a single which charted in Chicago. Don Young is not to be confused with the Chicago Cubs outfielder.

According to a trusted source, "Early In The Morning" was first recorded on the album "I Got The World" by Vince Edwards. Vince was the star of the television hit Dr. Ben Casey.

Gene Pitney recorded "She Lets Her Hair Down (Early In The Morning)" as arranged by Rupert Holmes and produced by Paul Vance and Lee Pockriss in November of 1969.

Rupert Holmes sang lead on The Cuff Links 1969 cover produced by the writer, Paul Vance.

The Tokens (Phil and brother Mitch Margo, Hank Medress and lead vocalist Jay Siegel) recorded "She Let's Her Hair Down (Early In The Morning" earlier in November, 1969.. The low charting Tokens single reached the sixties in the U.S. and the top forty in Canada and is from the album "Both Sides Now". The Tokens release was the most successful of a tune that never was a real hit and was recorded by too many acts although they each had their strengths. Ben E. King, Les Baxter, Bobby Sherman, The Pastors, Bert Kaempfert and others released later singles of the song.
