Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass were hot in the sixties and one of the most successful instrumental groups ever. Mr. Alpert had a habit of asking noted songwriters if they had anything on the shelf they may point his way. When he talked with Burt Bacharach the result was "This Guy's In Love With You". Herb sang the song on the 1968 televised special "Beat Of The Brass" and because of interest released it as a single. This became his A&M label's first chart topper on the Top One Hundred and it also hit number one the Easy Listening chart. To date Herb Alpert is the only recording artist to have both an instrumental and vocal number one hit.

"This Girl's In Love With You" (Bacharach - David) was originally written with Dionne Warwick (Warrick) in mind. Yet it wasn't until Herb's success that it was released in 1969 when it peaked at number seven. The single is from the album "Promises, Promises" which contained a majority of Burt Bacharach, Hal David compositions.
