If the composer of "Buffalo Gals" would come forward there may be money to be made with this song. Rockabilly artist Webb Dixon was first to record "Rock and Roll Angel" (Rogers) as it was issued in May of 1958. Research indicates that the composer, Jimmy Rogers, was a former manager of Cliff Nobles and Company. This group hit with the 1968 instrumental "The Horse".

In September of 1958 Ray Smith came out with "Rockin' Little Angel" for Sun Records subsidiary label Judd. This peaked at twenty-two on Billboard. Ray was a self-taught musician on piano, guitar and harmonica.
