Boats await the return of the tide, which has left for a few hours, HFF and a nice weekend Porlock Weir on the Somerset Coast, (Where Exmoor meets the Sea) Large perhaps! Awful weather down here in the South West, with no chance of a New Year image for a while yet!

A late afternoon image looking west across the Bristol Channel, Brean Down on the left and the Island of Steep Holm on the right, a distant Exmoor can just be seen rear left, I prefer the image large!

It's documentation in the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle is proof that the port at Porlock Weir has been in existance for over a thousand years and as one of the few places small ships can land along the rugged Exmoor coast it has had a varied history. The huge tidal range in the Bristol Channel means everything is left high and dry at low water while the houses in the image which are on the shingle bank between sea and harbour regularly have sand bags at the ready. It's a difficult life for a tree when the strong and cold Atlantic winds blow through the Bristol Channel especially when they are on the high ground of Exmoor., The coast of South Wales is across the channel. HFF and take care !

Exmoor meets the sea from the top of Porlock Toll Road, The never ending battle to hold back the waves was abandoned in 2001when the sea defences were opened to allow the sea to create a salt marsh here, Bossington beach curves around to the headland and the South Wales coast is in the far distance. In 16.9 format so a large view is recommended.

Class 33 Crompton D6566 skirts the foreshore as it approaches Blue Anchor Station on the West Somerset Heritage Railway, The misty north east corner of Exmoor forms the backdrop while the man and his dog walk towards Minehead on the England Coastal Path, Large may be better

A Pill Box on the beach at Porlock Weir, the shifting shingle has had a dramatic effect although it has taken around Sixty Years, the headlnd across the bay and in the background is one of a number of places where Exmoor meets the sea, Hopefully better large please

The patchwork fields in the Vale of Taunton Deane are next for a watering as a storm moves across from Exmoor and onward's to the gorse at Lydeard Hill, Quantock Hills AONB, Somerset' Large may be better.
