Bridgwater is a seaport situated on the tidal estuary of the river Parrett, and has been involved in ship building for centuries. Rope making was an important part of shipbuilding and the town had at least 6 rope walks,,,,,,, HBM.
This is the site of the last boatyard in the town and the final launch was in 1907 with the ketch IRENE,
She is still in sail and details for anyone interested, www.nationalhistoricships.org.uk/register/469/irene

A black and white image to match an undated postcard from the past (left hand pip) and a colour version (right hand pip),
Changes to the river bank sadly prevented me reaching the same spot as the original photographer,
This is the earlest of the eight bridges that cross the River Parrett in the Bridgwater area.

In Bridgwater the River Parrett has a tidal range from less than 1m to almost 7m, in this image looking from West Quay across to East Quay which also housed dry docks for shipbuilding, both sides of the river used to unload ships from far flung parts of the world some for transhipment into barges for travel to towns up river, Please see PIP (An old postcard taken fron the other side of the bridge)
The river was so busy it is said you could cross the river by walking on the moored ships, silting has however narrowed the river since those days,
HFF and a good weekend, Large may be better.
