The bay is part of the Bristol Channel, at low tide large parts of the channel become mud flats and sand banks due to the large tidal range of 43 ft (13 m) Some tides come in so fast they are preceded by a large wave called a Bore, these are present on about 130 days in the year and they make a spectacular sight as it travels many miles up the River Parrett, HWW to all!
