West Bower Manor,

03 Nov 2025 25 42 86
A capture from my Panasonic pocket camera, This is West Bower Manor (also known as Durleigh Manor) taken from the western bank of Durleigh Reservoir, The principal surviving element is a substantial 15th-century gatehouse in Decorated-Perpendicular style, forming the north side of what was once a courtyard house. It features a rectangular plan with an east wing, polygonal turrets added later (with glass bearing initials possibly of Alexander and Margaret Hody), (Grok x) Large view welcome, ,,,,,,, HWW, to all!

Camp 44!

The wall on the right forms a part of the entrance to POW 44 camp Goathurst, Bridgwater, Italian pows were at Goathurst where they lived in new huts and were reasonably well looked after with about 500 men in each camp. In return for their good care, they were employed, mostly in agricultural work and could be seen walking freely around the town with their yellow patches on their backs. The camp later housed German pows, And as a child i well remember them visiting our village at North Petherton many were welcomed into houses for tea and cake, often swapping stories with my father, in return they brought ships in bottles and a small wooden car for me, We had two or three regular visitors sadly I have forgotten names, In 16.9 format so a large view perhaps, HWW! Mist of Morning

Another from the archives this time it's back to 2015 and an image from Loch Leven at Glencoe Village. My notes say that is was a bright but misty morning with the beautiful light you would expect in the Highlands and a full tide which has just started to ebb. Loch Leven is an 8.75 mile sea Loch which opens at the seaward end into Loch Linnhe and contains 9 small islands, Enlarge if you please, ,,,,, HFF and a good weekend.

Flood Levels are Falling

09 Jan 2024 39 51 417
First day out with the camera this year on a bitterly cold and overcast afternoon, I only carried the pocket camera and this is shot in 16.9 therefore a large view would be appreciated ! Flood levels are clearly falling in this view looking across Aller moor towards the town of Somerton and taken from Walton Hill, which is a part of Somerset's Polden Hill range.
