Ben Loyal!

Ben Loyal across the Kyle of Tonge. Melness, Sutherland, At the very top of Scotland a short distance off of the North Coast 500 road, Ben Loyal is composed chiefly of granite, specifically syenite, and has a distinctive shape due to the four rocky peaks, the highest of which is called An Caisteal. To the north of An Caisteal is the 712 m Sgòr Chaonasaid, to the south is Bheinn Bheag (744 m), and to the west is the ridge of Sgòr a Chèirich, 644 m at its highest point. The fourth peak in the picture is the 568 m Sgòr Fionnaich. 16.9 format, a large view perhaps!

Pleas view large !!!!! This is my first of today's addition to the group, "North West 500"

The Flow Country – the most intact and extensive blanket bog system in the world. Stretching across Caithness and Sutherland in the far north of Scotland this vast expanse of blanket bog comprises a complex set of interlinked pool systems www.theflowcountry.org.uk This is taken from Moine House built as a halfway house for weary travellers, travelling from Loch Eriboll, one had to cross 14 miles of this morass, then make the choice of risking life on the ferry across the Kyle, or slogging another 9 miles overland via Kinloch to reach Tongue Village.. cmy.iay.org.uk/moinehouse/moine.htm The cloud covered mountain is the 764m Ben Loyal, Large may be good.

The tidal Kyle of Tongue in Sutherland with a cloud capped Ben Loyal as a backdrop, Traffic crosses the Kyle on a causeway which forms part of the A838 North Coast 500 Road around the top of the country, and is listed as one of the most amazing and beautiful drives around Scotland. (This bench is in one of two picnic areas part way across the causeway) The Kyle which is listed as a sea loch starts at Tongue Bay on the north coast and stretches inland for 7 miles (11 km) In 16.9 format, so a large view is recommended Pip 1 The Sign, Pip 2 The Causeway

Flow Country,

Moine House through the wind and fine driving rain of a Flow Country afternoon with Ben Loyal as a backdrop, The Moine House name derives from the Gaelic word mòine which means “moss” or “peat.” The house sits on the edge of a vast bog that covers much of Sutherland and Caithness, known as Flow Country. The long stretch of bog between the Kyle of Tongue and Loch Hope was often referred to as A’ Mòine, simply meaning “The Moss.” This area was difficult and dangerous for travelers to traverse until the 1830s when the Duke of Sutherland had a road constructed. The Mòine House was designed along the edge of this road as a shelter for travelers at the halfway point of the roadway. (www.atlasobscura.com) I prefer the image large, HFF and a lovely weekend to all !

The tidal Kyle of Tongue showing the causeway which carries the main A838 coastal road which combined with the A836 forms a major part of the North Coast 500 route around the top of the country, Ben Loyal range in the background, and this image was taken from the Melness side of the Kyle. This area has a good reputation for catching the Northern Lights. Please view large, and I wish everyone HFF and a great weekend.

Ben Loyal 764 m (2506.5 ft) is a Corbett which is the name given to a mountain in Scotland that is between 2,500 and 3000 feet in height, but it must also have a 500-foot drop on all sides, This was captured just outside the village of Tongue on the A838 which forms a part of the North Coast 500 around the top of Scotland, This is also just prior to the start of the 3.8 km (2.361 miles) causeway across the tidal Kyle of Tongue, I wish you all a HFF and a good weekend A large view would be appreciated.
