This is the Calanais Standing Stones on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides and the most famous of several related stone settings in the Calanais area (including Calanais II, III, and others), forming part of a broader prehistoric ritual landscape. Often called the "Stonehenge of the North," the site features a distinctive cross-shaped arrangement of standing stones made from ancient Lewisian gneiss (some of the oldest exposed rocks on Earth). The main monument (Calanais I) includes:A central stone circle with 13 stones surrounding a tall central monolith (about 4.8–5 meters high). An avenue of stones extending northward (roughly 83 meters long, formed by two parallel-ish rows that fan out slightly). Rows of stones extending east, west, and south from the circle, creating the cruciform (cross-like) pattern The stones were erected around 2900–2600 BC during the Neolithic period—predating the main phases of Stonehenge by several centuries (roughly 500 years earlier than its famous sarsen circle). Officially the windiest place in the the UK with North Atlantic gusts of 160 miles per hour recorded, this is also the most northerly point on the Isle of Lewis, For details of the Butt of Lewis Lighthouse (locally called The Butt) please see the pip, HWW! and a large view perhaps!

Port of Ness village, Isle of Lewis, Outher Hebrides, Scotland, HWW! Nis, or Ness, is the most northerly parish in Lewis. It has the highest proportion of Gaelic speakers in Scotland, over 90%. Loch Erisort is an 8-mile-long narrow sea inlet on the east coast of the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides off the west coast it flows into the Minch, Have a good weekend !

Flowing into the North Minch this is an 8 mile long narrow Sea Loch on the east coast of the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides Large for detail please. HFF and a good weekend but please continue to take care. I will hopefully be fully back to normal IP service after the weekend.

Records show this to be the windiest place in the UK. Look West from here and there's nothing between you and Northern Canada; look north and it's open ocean all the way to the Arctic. The Lighthouse stands 121ft high and was built between 1859 and 1862 by David and Thomas Stevenson, The Butt of Lewis latitude 58°30.940'N and Longitude 006°15.717'W with a flashing white light every 5 seconds and a range of 25 nautical miles.. The stones are an arrangement of standing stones placed in a cruciform pattern with a central stone circle. They were erected in the late Neolithic era, and were a focus for ritual activity during the Bronze Age, Isle of Lewis, Outer Hebrides.
