Homecoming

07 Jun 2022 29 19 284
Around our Seven Seas, man has always fished. Here on the coast of Scotland, between Islands, the Scottish and Irish mainland and the wild Atlantic, fishing is a long established tradition. This fishing boat has returned from a short day out in our local Killbrannan Sound, the stretch of water dividing Kintyre and Arran. Nowadays, the catches are a shadow of what they used to be and as we come close to the home port of Carradale, some waste, as usual is discarded into the waters. It’s a feast for the local sea gulls of course. See PiP for alternative view Enjoy full screen.

Sunset from Carradale

Looking east from the village towards the Isle of Arran. The sun is setting behind me to my left, warming the hills and valleys of this Island. We can see the islands highest mountain ‘Goatfell’ at 874 metres with its daily hat of mist. It is in fact a Scottish ‘Corbett’ as it over 762m and under 914m. For most of our seven days here we could never see this mountain for low cloud. The far village is, I think 'Catacol' with the nearby bigger village 'Lochranza' just hidden further to its left.

HBM ~ a seat at Carradale

A seat with a view here on this working harbour. Some mosses on the back of the seat mixed with the old paintwork. Real working fishing boats come and go from this harbour.. Enjoy full size and enjoy your week in safety.

A first look at this village harbour over on the east coast of the Mull of Kintyre. We are looking south east across to the Isle of Arran some 3.5miles (5.6km) away. This was the weather we were to see a lot of during the week of our stay here in a cottage only a very short distance away with the same views. Enjoy full screen.
