It must be time to update the title of this elderly and disreputable Group. I am bored, you are bored. Some radical change is needed. I may reduce maximum contributions to one a week. I may make the group include only pictures of kittens. We must move with the times.

IIRC the group name did used to get its "Acuity" changed quite regularly to other A * y words, though I wouldn't feel at ease with the implied dominion in your second suggestion . . .

I cannot explain the whims of Mr Bucknell, the group's creator, but I trust in his learning and vitality to energise the group in sundry ways. Being a traditionalist, I liked the original title ending 'Vacuity' which I took to be ironic. Although my understanding of the other bit - *Italo-Byzantine - remains undeveloped, I did earlier object when unseen tech gremlins took the * away. But my complaint was passive aggressive; it took Steve Bucknell to apply energy and traction which resulted in its restoration. So I guess the title means what you want it to mean and in comparison to the spirit and liveliness of the group is rather unimportant.

I think of the *Italo-Byzantine as a photographic mosaic inspired by Ruskin’s studies of the Basilica of St. Mark in Venice. Sacred and secular, a monument to capitalism and the numinous. The *Group is approaching 10,000 images now. As someone said: “ They shall know us by our Velocity.”

I take no credit for the * Group, which was created, I think, by the Angelic Anglo-Saxon, or some such moniker.

Having researched the group's origins, I have found references by Gerrit Fisher to 'Arthritic Angelic Saxon' who is apparently active in flickr as 'lambert bank'. I looked at his output and could find no obvious connection to the kind of magic he had originated here and the subjects in which he is now interested. I reached two conclusions: (1) Arthritic Angelic Saxon has a great talent for coining improbable and attention-grabbing nomenclature; (2) the group he created has developed and flourished in ways he might never have foreseen or imagined. Anyway, to the present moment: I see a further change of title has taken place with the last word now being 'Velocity'. That sounds quite stirring and inspirational. Forward, comrades!
