Mountains aflame
Icking - S-Bahnhof

When you get on the train at Icking, it’s probably not a very good idea to leave your bike at the station.
Dull place in full color

The Icking railway station. In the weekends, young people from all over the region come here to destroy things. That’s bad, but I can’t really blame them.
Le moment décisif
|
|
|
|
As every serious photographer knows, it’s always hard to capture the decisive moment, and I’m proud to have managed.
(Viewers who care about Exif data may be puzzled a bit. True, the hands of this clock NEVER move.)
Öder Ort

When I think about dull places, it’s always the Icking railway station which first comes to mind. There used to be a real station, with a waiting room, a ticket window, toilets. Recently, the last remains of the old station made place for parking spaces, and the platforms were refurbished.
When I happen to be in a cheerful mood, I come here, and have myself depressed.
Sentimental Journey

Robbie in Neuburg/Donau. He used to live here before we got him, which was the main reason for us not to visit that town. If we do, dogs must have their traumas too, we thought. After more than seven years, the time was ripe to break the spell. We observed him closely: Would he recognize anything? Sometimes, it seemed he did, and sometimes not... Anyway, we’re fairly certain that he doesn’t need therapy.

Sabbioneta

At Sabbioneta, there were very few places where one could have dinner. We won’t complain, though.

On my desk is a letter opener out of rarely polished silver. It was a gift from my brother and sister-in-law, and bears the inscription “K 25”, so it’s likely to commemorate something.

The Mincio river near Andes
|
|
“Virgil was born at Mantua”, they say, but that’s not quite accurate. Actually, he was born at Andes nearby. It was a pleasant surprise to discover the village, bland as it may be, still exists. According to some philosophers, no one gets into the same river twice, but as far as it gets, we may safely assume the poet took swims here as a boy. I was thrilled.

Last station on our Summer trip to Italy was Sabbioneta, a small Renaissance town I liked very much. I took lots of pictures there, none as odd as the one above.
Us As Me

Companion piece to this one .
Sherry wore one of my jackets. I’m sorry to say that it was severely damaged in my scooter accident. It goes without saying, that the volume on the table isn’t the whole Latin lexicon: it only contains part of the letter “I”.
Neuburg an der Donau

This fair lady at Neuburg castle would perhaps have been much fairer when she’d have preserved her nose (but I doubt it).

San Benedetto Po

A quick stop at San Benedetto Po, east of Mantua, where the Abbey harbored an interesting exhibition I didn’t see. I was sitting outside the church, and watched over a row of philosophers. They felt uncomfortable.
Mantua - Lago di Mezzo

Right behind the Virgil statue featured elsewhere, there’s a lot of water. The marshes which once used to threaten Mantua, and made it an unhealthy place, were bridled by dikes and drains many centuries ago, though the town still has a bad reputation for its gnats.
