Man sagt, die Große Eiche in Ivenack sei 1000 Jahre alt. Wissenschaftler schätzen das Alter auf 800 bis 850 Jahre. Auch das ist ein stattliches Alter, denn als Kolumbus nach Amerika fuhr, war die Eiche bereits über 300 Jahre alt!
Der Stamm mit seinen beachtlichen Umfang von 12,67 m ist noch vollständig in Takt. Allerdings hat die Krone durch Lichtmangel und Stürme im unteren Bereich einige Äste verloren. Mit 32 m Höhe und 21 m Durchmesser ist die Krone immer noch riesig. Mit einem Holzvolumen von 180 Festmetern ist sie die mächtigste Eiche Europas.
