HBM Wilhelm!

Not for me, I am an atheist, but in my ancester’s religion it is not celebrated either: Jews do not have a special day to celebrate their dead: there is no Jewish All Saints' Day. Only the day determined by Israel for the commemoration and mourning of the 6 million victims of the Shoah exists. This day has been set on 27 January since 2005.

Indeed, the Jewish religion does not celebrate All Saints' Day as such in order not to "fall into the cult of the dead", but the ritual of mourning is very important. Commemoration of the dead is done throughout the year and on key dates derived from the mourning ritual. The Jewish ritual is simple, the purpose is to remind us that Man is only a passing being on Earth and that matter is futile.

Ich bin kein frommer Christ, der jeden Sonntag in die Kirche geht. Aber es gibt einige kirchliche Feiertage, die ich wahrnehme. Der Zyklus der Feiertage soll die Menschen aus der Hektik des Alltags loslösen und sie zur Besinnung und Sinnlichkeit führen.
An Allerheiligen soll man der Toten gedenken. Aber das kann man natürlich auch an jedem anderen Tag tun, und dazu braucht man auch nicht unbedingt eine Religion.
