a list of john thackeray's charitable bequests on his tomb of 1851, including those to his almshouses in lewisham just down the road and to christ's hospital. an old blue himself and thus probably from an impoverished background, thackeray did well enough for himself to be able to leave several bequests to the bluecoat school and its affiliated organizations.
