Vladimir Iljitš Lenin

Vladimir Iljitš Lenin
We have something very unique and rare here at Tampere, and that is Lenin Museum:

lenin.fi/?page_id=151&lang=en

One funny story I learned there is how V.I. Lenin went to local market place to eat black sausage (blood sausage), and it is claimed he said: "People who make such delicacy deserves to get independency!" Well, this story is maybe not entirely true, but I guess the support Lenin received from some Finnish individuals made him personally favorable to give recognition of independency to Finland:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Independence_of_Finland#International_recognition

So, we Finns must say Lenin was a very important person to us =D

Collage made with Collage Maker Android application, and that is why there is no EXIF. All pictures taken on Saturday August 11, 2018. Permission to take pictures inside the museum was given by personnel.

Annemarie, Gillian Everett, Fred Fouarge, Pam J and 17 other people have particularly liked this photo

Well, there are different opinions on why especially Lenin was favorable to give independence to Estonia, Finland and other small countries. One opinion is that he was just practical, thinking of resources, and hoped the revolution would then start within all of those countries anyway. Like the small countries would follow the example of progress in Russia.

Anyway, the picture we give of historical characters often changes when we read or hear some more personal detail about them. Although, even that can be used as a tool of propaganda ;-) History is a difficult subject. So much uncertainty... There are of course cold facts, but then there are tiniest details like personal letters and diaries, which may give some light on historical events, but they still are very subjective and maybe not entirely true.

Never been to this museum, the story about the "mustamakkara" is new to me. Nice collage. Mustamakkara I once ate, but not very impressed :))

In the 90ies a Dutch businessman from the eastern part of the province Groningen bought a statue of Lenin and put this near his company. Now it is standing at the thermal baths in Nieuweschans, also in the east of Groningen.
This is also the region where the Dutch communist party had a stronghold and even an absolute majority in one of the municipalities.

Nicely put together Sami and I found the information interesting. You're right one does often get a different sense of a person from the little details that don't get mentioned in the history books but then those books are written by the victors especially when covering historical conflicts. ( at least that's what one professor of World History said in class one day)

It's like Robert E. Lee, many here only see his actions/accomplishments as a General in our Civil War. I have found that I am far more interested in his accomplishments after the Civil War, especially while he was President of the Washington & Lee University here in Lexington.

I have heard the same. At that can be applied to archiving and museums. We tend to keep and save only what the majority and those in power finds interesting and worth to save.

Another option is to build something so massive that the next generations finds it too troublesome to remove ;-) Unfortunately also means to remove things have become more effective...

There was also other things to see, fortunately =D So, today it is more like a museum of Soviet era. One funny thing was an ancient computer with ascii tetris.

Based on your example, it is easy to see that the challenge is not just about photographing for given topics, but also encourages you to immerse yourself in certain subject areas and to inform yourself.
I find your attractive collage very successful and interesting!

Thank you for very nice compliment, Stevia. That indeed is what I am trying to do these days. to go out from my comfort zone. And it indeed is what I can recommend to everyone else: try to learn and know your subject.
