Beautiful and interesting pictures!!!!
All our European countries have many medieval castles (or more recent) but I nevertheless believe that England is well at the top of the ranking!!!!!!!
Have a nice tuesday evening*******

Looks like a good place to visit Rosa. As the comment above implies, we are lucky to have just so many of these castles about. Well done.

Best Wishes. Herb

In the 1960's I used to go with my father to motorbike scrambles in this village. You could see the whole course from the hillside. I remember passing the entrance to the castle, but until now, I had never visited it. I was surprised at how interesting it was, despite being a ruin. Many thanks for your kind comment Herb.

Best wishes, Rosa.

Two very impressive image Rosa..............both captured in super sunshine and full of lovely detail.

The tower looks quite magnificent..........and seems to be in pretty good condition. Anyone on top would have had a cracking view and be well placed to defend the castle.

The PiP gives us a bit more context and shows the defensive walls..........the church looks quite beautiful and I note it has its own walls too.

It looks like an interesting place to visit. I'm sure you told me a while ago that you'd changed from an NT membership to an English Heritage one!

Thank you very much Keith. I couldn't believe you had to drive through the castle grounds to the car park! I kept thinking I was wrong!

The most interesting part was the church and the buildings behind it, but the views from the grounds are fantastic. Will show more of it in the coming days.

You have a good memory Keith. That's right. I have until the end of the month left on my NT membership and I started the English Heritage membership on this visit.

A very dramatic entrance to get to this castle, Rosa. I notice you have mentioned changing to English Heritage. I hope it's worthwhile in the region where you live. Here we have a saying that it is 'never knowingly open'. ;-)))

Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Amelia club
I was very taken with this place Amelia. Well, we shall see how often EH properties are open. I know that Stone Henge, Wardour Castle and Old Sarum are open 7 days, and those are the ones I want to visit soon. Many of their properties in this region are actually free to walk around, like Avebury and Nunney Castle. I'll let you know how I get on next year :-))

Yes, I do! :-)) I started it sometime ago...
I'm pleased you like what you've seen of my France photos so far. There will be more. However, next week my bathroom will be ripped out because of a water pipe leak, so unfortunately I won't have too much time for IP in the coming weeks... :-((
8 months ago.
Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Edna Edenkoben club
We have just had a new bathroom fitted Edna :-) A few little ends to tie up, like the pipe coverings, but the plumber is in France for five weeks....three weeks to go!!
Edna Edenkoben club has replied to Rosalyn Hilborne club
Well, I guess it takes patience ;-) For me it's not a new bathroom for fun, but a leaking pipe that requires all that work. At the end, it's going to be the same old bathroom...I just hope it won't take three weeeks!! At least the noise won't, I hope...

Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Edna Edenkoben club
I hope it is better after the repairs Edna....A leaking pipe is worrying!
Edna Edenkoben club has replied to Rosalyn Hilborne club
A leaking pipe sure is...but for the people in the apartment below mine!! I didn't even notice the leak because the pipe is behind a tiled bathroom wall. Well, let's hope so...I'm trying to convince my landlord to a shower cabin instead of a bathtub ;-)
