Take the black car away (better not, it fits wonderfully!!!), and it is a mood out of a fairy tale or at least out of a Tolkien story ...
Well see, well chosen angle and well captured.
You may ask the owner if he wants it for an advertising brochure ... considering a proper fee to you of course. ;-)

Thank you for your kind comments Leon. I took a photo later on without the car there but it was not such a good picture, I thought.

Not seen anything like this architecture before Rosa. A great capture, the stonework of the building with the warm honey colour looks amazing in this very nicely composed image. The shape of the roof is quite something, would not care to be the one to put new slates on such a complicated profile!

All the best, Doug

I would love to know if there was another with a roof like this Doug. I certainly have never seen one. The hamstone is or was quarried about three miles from the village of Montacute.

All the best, Rosa.

That's a very grand gate-house................the actual house itself must be very impressive. I also really like the elegant roof and the beautifully warm colour of the stonework!

A wonderful shot Rosa!

The house is very impressive Keith and I will show it soon. It has been used in many films and TV series. The last one being Wolfe Hall....and a Wallace & Gromit film....all will be revealed later!

Many thanks for your very kind comments.

Lovely building Rosalyn, seems to have a bit of an Islamic influence where the roof is concerned.

I suppose you could say that Maurice, but it is very Tudor/Elizabethan.
It is a lovely building though. Many thanks for your nice comments.

A lovely looking building built to impress guests arriving at the big house and show how wealthy you were, nothing changes really !!! There only appears to be one chimney presumably for the range. I always wonder how did they do it cutting the timbers for the roof wouldn't be easy with todays machinery

Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Peter Castell club
It's very spacious inside Peter, if a little over modernised for my taste. No range in the kitchen now. They were very good craftsmen in the days this was built....it does make you wonder how they achieved such beautiful buildings!

It is the local Ham stone and most of the villages in this part of Somerset are built with it.
Thank you for your very kind comments.

Beautiful architecture, Rosa. This building looks in better condition than those that were built in the 1960s. Cheers, Joe
