Happy World Photography Day!! seven - graphic abstraction

One to stand out from the crowd. It’s good that so many people have joined in.

Thank you for all your hard work towards World Photography Day, Laura.
I can see the Rothko-ness here, though perhaps the central sharpness might have caused him some angst.

Regarding it not being a photograph of something, I tend towards Picasso's thoughts: "There is no abstract art. You must always start with something. Afterwards, you can remove all traces of reality." Thus its "something-ness" exists but is hidden from the viewer.

Don't know who or what ist 'The Origoman', but I am thrilled by this abstract world view, even though I find it very interesting that you made this picture in the style of Mark Rothko's work, it remains to say that it bears your very own signature (just look at your pictures 'sky', 'winter skye', 'abstraction' , 'smoke layer' and others)!

I was glad the word was not obvious as it is intended as an abstarct. But if you actually want to know it is "The Oregonian" - our local newspaper

I really like the different textures of each part and colour. The faint lettering on the yellow makes you want to find out more. Great abstract work, Laura!

Thank you so much, Eric! It makes me happy that people respond well to my abstractions. They are the core of my art (even though I love nature photos and other types of photography as well).

Actually the photo was a surprise looking at the thumbnail I thought it was something rural ripe corn in the foreground green fields in the distance with something mysterious in the centre, never mind still a great contribution Laura

That's wonderful! I love that it changed from one size to another. I often find that images have a particular size that they work best in. Maybe this one should be really small! Thank you.

which Oregonian? I'm one of those - haha. The Oregonian newspaper has been around since 1850. That's one year before Portland, Oregon (the largest city on Oregon) was incorporated. It is the longest running newspaper on the west coast of the states. And amazingly is still printed, though it has only a very few pages these days. I know, too much information.

The Oregonian distracts a bit of it being an "abstract" I had to think it might be the newspaper but then I tried not to see the letters and just enjoy the colors and the two misssing screws.

I am always trying to be on the edge between reality and abstraction. Another member mentioned they saw it differently in the smaller view (before getting to the photo's main page). Makes me wonder if I should only have this one be small. Or maybe I should show this one upside down - then the lettering becomes more abstract.

As Colin says, "This one stands out from the crowd." Such complimentary colours and must be viewed large. Any of your 12 photos would be most fitting for World Photography Day. This one certainly has the edge, Laura.

Thank you. While the colors are on the 'cheery' side, I understand your sense of disturbance - the space between the two main colors is off just a bit adding to that feeling.
