Alhambra, Granada - [ Happy Wednesdeay Wall! ] Die Alhambra ist eine Stadtburg (kasbah) auf dem Sabikah-Hügel im andalusischen Granada in Spanien. Sie gilt als eines der bedeutendsten Beispiele des maurischen Stils der islamischen Kunst, ist eine der meistbesuchten Touristenattraktionen Europas und seit 1984 Weltkulturerbe. Die Burganlage ist etwa 740 m lang und bis zu 220 m breit. Oben ein Wanddetail mit filigranen Stuckarbeiten und dem typischen Keramikplattenmuster im unteren Teil der Wand. Die Mezquita in Córdoba, Spanien Die Hauptattraktion von Córdoba ist die Moschee-Kathedrale, genannt Mezquita. Seit ihrem Baubeginn im Jahr 785 n.Chr. war die Freitagsmoschee das Vorbild für die Sakralkunst von Al-Andalus schlechthin. Während der Periode des Kalifats bildete sie sogar ein der Grossen Moschee von Mekka gleichwertiges Pilgerzentrum für die Muslime des westlichen Mittelmeerraumes. Sie wurde durch zahlreiche Erweiterungen und Verschönerungen zu einer der prächtigsten Moschee überhaupt. Daran konnte auch der Einbau einer kath. Kathedrale im 16. Jh. nichts ändern. The Mezquita in Córdoba, Spain. The main attraction of Córdoba is the mosque-cathedral, known as the Mezquita. Since its construction began in 785 AD, the Friday Mosque has been the model for the sacred art of Al-Andalus par excellence. During the period of the caliphate, it even became a pilgrimage center for the Muslims of the western Mediterranean, on a par with the Great Mosque of Mecca. Numerous extensions and embellishments made it one of the most magnificent mosques in the world. Even the addition of a Catholic cathedral in the 16th century could not change this.
