No. 1 is particularly interesting with such a variety of materials for a small house - black mathematical tiles on the first-floor front (according to the listing), red tile hanging on the first-floor side (perhaps late C19 or early C20, going by the decorative bands of wavy tiles), with red brick and flint on the ground-floor side; slate roof. I wonder if there is timber framing behind the mathematical tiles.

Lewes full of very individual houses and shops. When one considers these are only from a couple of streets - Market Street leads into North Street - and there are buildings I have missed or not reached yet, even in these streets, it is a fascinating place to wander round. All these photos, taken on 19th February, were taken as I killed time, having just missed a half-hourly train! I must get back and explore further. It is only a few minutes up the line.

Indeed, a lovely town. I spent a week working there in 1982 and took a few photographs in my free time, which I hope to scan and put online eventually if I decide that they are fit to be seen by other people. It's evidence of how much there is to see in Lewes that there's little overlap between the subjects of my photographs and yours!
