That Tree Again

A favorite old oak at Helen Putnam Regional Park. Printed 8 February 2013.
I didn't notice my solargraphy camera in this until I was printing it!

This place has special personal significance to me. I've never made a good photograph here, but was pleased with this one. 1/4 second exposure, I braced myself as well as I could. My first roll of FP4+ and so far I like it a lot! Printed 31 January 2013.

The lakes at Foothill Regional Park do not have very imaginative names.
Handheld at 1/8 second, I'm not that good: it's a little soft, but it was a beautiful evening.
Printed 31 January 2013 on 8x10 paper.

Walnuts

There are many places in Sonoma County where walnut trees grow "wild" like this. They turn bright yellow in autumn.

Okay, this might be just South of Sonoma County, but I'm from Sonoma County! Still a few more to print from this roll.
Time and Season
| |
|
|
My favorite so far, and in the same place as my last favorite! Not sure what is causing the blue aura, but it's on the paper and not an artifact of scanning or processing. These are sunrises, and there is often fog here in the morning? The camera was on a living oak that left its own ghost leaves. The field to the left of the oak was brown and turned to green with the rains, and the trees stayed dark in the distance. Of course the oaks dropped their leaves recently. Time and seasons. Lots to see in this one.

At Crane Creek Park. I worked hard at this print. My wife liked one that had more exposure and contrast, but I like the softer light look of this one. They both look nice in hand and I'm having fun printing.
Sunrises

Yes these are sunrises! I didn't flip the scan. The top was dissolved from water in the can, otherwise I would have got the top of this old oak! Couldn't help some splashes hiking out with it. Replaced the camera at this great location. Something about this site makes brushstroke suntrails..the fog I think.

Crane Creek Oak

|
Oak at Crane Creek Regional Park. This is a 5x7" straight print.
Besides the leak on the lower right, there is a strange blurriness which makes an interesting effect... the center of the print jumps out. Under the "tree arch" the print looks extremely sharp. Too many possibilities:
* it was the last frame, so maybe the film lost tension?
* Shot at 1/50, which is slower than I've tried with this camera?
* Sometimes this camera has smaller DOF than I expect? This was F11.
Who knows? But it looks sort of dreamy.
