Salt print of calotype. Canson Universal Sketch paper, 10 minutes in gold thiocyanate toner. Printed 29 January 2015

Greenlaw's process calotype on Canson Vidalon Vellum paper. Image is 3.25 x 5.5 inches on 3.75 x 6.25 paper. Made with a Kodak 3A series II camera, LV 12, 8 minutes at f/8. The scene is a little on the melancholy side, but I'm thrilled with the negative. There was a robin hopping around in the trees encouraging me as I made the exposure. It has been carefully drying since Monday between changes of blotters, and there are no wrinkles at all. There does not appear to be any fog or staining, we'll see how it does for salt printing! Quick digi-snap of calotype in a printfile sleeve on backlit white paper. In person it is a brighter reddish-gold color and the sky is more black. It was not completely flat and there is some keystoning, but I wanted to give an idea of the color and I don't own a transmissive scanner. It's really lovely held up to a window and reminds me more of a sheet of film than a paper negative!

This pinhole paper negative was underexposed but I like the patterns and in a way it gets the feel of this place. I have been walking in this park for 15 years and just Saturday discovered this pool of water under a beautiful old oak tree. My dog Mango of course jumped right in as soon as she saw it. I'll be back to give it more than 5 minutes exposure next time!

Pinhole paper negative from February. It was the first rain in a late winter. We're having plenty of rain now! Gold-toned salt print made December 2014.

Here's the salt print from that paper negative. Tried to use digi-cam instead of my scanner and it did not work very well, the colors still are not right even after using grey card to adjust the white balance. But anyway, this gives something of an idea! Printed 11 Nov 2014 Lana Aquarelle paper, gold toned. Paper is 7.5 x 11 inches.

I made this paper negative yesterday, it is very high contrast because it will be used to make a salt print.

My FM2n does not have a 100% viewfinder. When this happens it is like chopping off the top of someone's head in a portrait! Still, it's a beautiful California Laurel tree. Printed 18 June 2014
