Lid with Three Horses
Greek, made in Boiotia, 760-750 BC
Terracotta
Pyxis lid

Inventory # 71.AE.217

The three small, stylized horses that decorate this lid appear to wear harnesses and may represent a chariot team. The lid once belonged to a pyxis, a cylindrical container used to hold precious objects such as jewelry or cosmetics.
