The lower classroom at Howlands School was where I was taught for two years, 1972--1974, by Mrs Long. She was a lovely teacher I remember fondly.

Where I grew up (but some time after I left). The room in the top-right corner was mine which I shared, initially, with my three brothers. The middle and left-hand windows were my parent's room.

The inscription says "Elizabeth, Wife of Robert Fincher Millwright died the 18th July 1764 aged 60 years".

This tombstone is a fairly ordinary looking one amongst the grandeur of Père Lachaise. It commemorates, however, a very famous sociologist, Pierre Bourdieu and his wife Marie-Claire. B wrote "Outline of a Theory of Practice", oft cited by archaeologists but, I suspect, rarely actually read. The English translation is very dense. More interesting (to me at least) is that he collaborated with the great French statistician Jean-Paul Benzécri in the use of Multiple Correspondence Analysis, esp. in La Distinction.
