Das Bild in der mitte ist einen Auschnitt (rotes Kader) aus dem Bild links Das Bild rechts is hergestelt mit einem Newton teleskop, f=750 mm Der Krabbennebel ist der expandierende Überrest der Supernova von 1054, und ist der erste in Messier's Liste von Nebeln. Er hat die Liste erstelt um ihm behilflich zu sein bei der Suche nach Kometen.
