Grandad's Gold Watch

Grandad's Gold Watch
This watch belonged to my Grandad. It was presented to him when he retired from his job as a Marine Engineer in 1962 after 25 years loyal service. It's seen a bit of wear and tear over the years, but it still works and keeps good time. As it's a "wind up" watch I only wear it occasionally, just to keep the movement going.

Special K, Tanja - Loughcrew, Diane Putnam, Jean Paul Capdeville and 20 other people have particularly liked this photo

A proper watch that can be wound up, and doesn't need a battery. Do you wear it Keith?

The wear and tear shows that it was worn and enjoyed Keith. You have just reminded me that I have a collection of my mother's and father's watches. I should think about doing something similar to your lovely picture on a wet and windy day....I have to pick the granddaughter up from school today. I think I may get wet ;-)

What a lovely memento of your grandad. You've photographed it so well, setting it off perfectly. I still have my mother's watch which is a wind up one but no longer works.

Tudor used to be owned by Rolex and used some of the same parts and cases etc. Nowadays they're more of a "partner" company to Rolex and use their own parts and movements. They do some very high quality watches, most of which are only slightly less expensive than Rolex.

Thanks for your kind words Diane. Yes, he was very proud of his work. He would have been heartbroken to see how UK shipbuilding has been run down over the years :-(
