This week in SSC: Water - (long exposure optional) I was looking forward to getting some long exposure shots this week so I headed off to the Cushman Dam No. 2 along the Hood Canal here in Washington state. I was hoping to see lots of water but it is summer so the water was pretty low. I tried out my ND filter for the first time and had fun getting some motion blur on the water. I took my tripod but wound up bracing my camera on a ledge instead. Next time I will use my tripod for such long exposures. (More pics ​in PiPs.) In honor of Linda Ronstadt's birthday, July 15th ♥ ♥ ♥ I have loved her since I was a teenager and was lucky enough to see her live in 1976. I think she was one of the best female vocalists ever. She could take a song written by anyone else and make it all her own and she even made me like some Country Music. :) Happy Birthday, Linda Ronstadt! For Sight and Sound: This song is one of my favorites from the first album of hers that I ever heard. It was written by Woody Guthrie, Huddie Ledbetter and Alan Lomax and features Bernie Leadon on guitar and vocals and Herb Peterson on banjo, fiddle and vocals. This week in SSC: "Something interesting from my street" I live way out in the woods and the lane I live on is really just a long driveway that ends at my house (see PIP.) I walked down it a couple of times but really couldn't find anything too interesting (and I didn't think I should post a photo of my neighbor's house. :)) So... I took a photo of a tadpole that is in our pond since the lane goes right by it. I thought he was pretty interesting. For Sight and Sound: I finally figured out how to do slow motion video on my G9 which is interesting because you have to use manual focus. I also finally learned how to add some music to it so here is my friend the little hummingbird. She visits the fuchsias almost every day. This week in SSC: "Take a photo of anything that flies or floats in the air." Well, I got a lot of exercise this week. We always have jets going over from Sea-Tac International Airport in Seattle but we also live very near a private airpark. Planes take off or land from there but you never know when it will be. So each time I heard what I thought was a small plane I went running outside with my camera. I got several shots of different planes but this was the best one I got all week. I believe it's a replica of a World War 1 Army plane. I just love the bright colors. This week in SSC: "Statues and Monuments" "The Proud Tradition" by Larry Anderson was completed in 1991 to honor Naval shipyard workers and commemorate 100 years of operation of the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard here in Bremerton, Washington. "In 1891 the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard opened for business. And since then, it’s not only been one of the town’s biggest employers, it has also played an important part in supporting the US Navy. During the Second World War, ships and vessels that had sustained damage in battle were brought to the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for repair. And in the days since then, vessels have been sailed into Bremerton to be patched up, repaired, and even to be recycled, while the shipyard’s Submarine Recycling Program means the deactivating and disposing of nuclear compartments. It’s hard work. And it’s dangerous work. And to celebrate 100 years of that hard and dangerous work and the major part it plays in the life of many Bremerton families, this sculpture was put up. The man is called Clark, it says so on his hard-hat. The gift he’s giving the little boy in the baseball cap is a Kitty Hawk-class aircraft carrier. But more than that, he’s putting into the little boy’s hands the proud tradition of ship work upon which the town of Bremerton has thrived for well over a century. He’s putting into his hands the future."
