I've been testing the raw files on my Fujifilm X100. I generally like

the mid and lower tones that I get in the Fuji raw files, but I cannot

get a grip on the highest tones.

That's essentially what I have been doing but not to the raw file.

My raw converter (I use the plug-in for Paint Shop Pro) has very rudimentary curves control which won't control *just* the highs or just the *lows,* instead brightening or darkening the entire picture. In later jpeg editing, I can make the finer adjustments (as curves), but already the damage has been done to dynamic range.

I've tried the raw converter especially for my Olympus camera and find the same limitations. And I used the Corel After Shot pro software at one time, again with the same limitations. I keep thinking I must be missing something more subtle, but I don't find it when I look.

My work-around is to import the raw file into the converter and, without making many adjustments at all, generate a jpeg for editing in the regular editor.

Thanks for the chain of work. I will check into all this.
