City Rhinos

Bratislava is fortunate to have its zoo set on the slopes of the Little Carpathians, where fragments of the original forest still survive. Over the years, it has evolved from a somewhat austere yet child-friendly park into a modern and thoughtfully designed zoo. Its gradual expansion uphill has opened up remarkable viewpoints stretching from the southwest toward the city center, creating unusual and memorable scenes such as rhinos seemingly set against an urban backdrop.

From these vantage points, visitors can take in sweeping views of the Little Carpathian hills above the Old Town, from the castle plateau across to Slavín, as well as the Kamzík TV Tower and the striking building of the Slovak National Archives. The latter stands out as a distinctive example of brutalist architecture, designed by Vladimír Dedeček and completed in the early 1980s, known for its monumental scale and sculptural concrete forms.
