The fence bracket fungus (Gloeophyllum sepiarium) is a wood-destroying fungus that primarily affects sun-exposed coniferous wood (spruce, pine) and causes severe brown rot, which decomposes the wood from the inside out, making it brittle. It is often only noticeable when the fruiting bodies appear and significant damage has already occurred. It causes deep brown rot (internal rot), which makes the wood crumbly, but the surface remains intact for a long time.

Le gloéophylle (Gloeophyllum sepiarium) est un champignon lignivore qui s'attaque principalement aux conifères exposés au soleil (épicéa, pin) et provoque une pourriture brune intense. Ce champignon décompose le bois de l'intérieur, le rendant cassant. On ne le remarque souvent qu'à l'apparition des fructifications, lorsque des dégâts importants sont déjà survenus. Il provoque une pourriture brune profonde (pourriture interne), qui rend le bois friable, mais la surface reste intacte pendant longtemps.
