Black and white works really well here Roger. A super shot capturing both the very attractive old stilted lower lighthouse and the Flat Holm one too. The figures give a sense of scale. A beautiful, timeless image perfect for World Photography Day

Black and white works perfectly well for this picture, Roger. It seems to emphasise the distance by eliminating distracting colour. (Of course, YMMV.) I agree also with Ecobird about the timeless nature of the image.

A few details, Constructed: 1832 , Wood (tower), Height 9 m (30 ft) , square tower on nine pilings, white tower with a red vertical stripe on seaward side, Grade 2 listed Building!

And for me it was too hot to go out in nature, too crowdy at the sea, not a good date too, so fully agree with you ! Problem would be the choice of a date suitable for everyone !!!!!

I agree with the other comments.........this scene is very nicely suited to black and white. It gives it a nice gritty and slightly melancholy look which seems to suit the weather.

I like the look of the lighthouse on stilts Roger and is that another lighthouse in the far distance? It's good to have a person in shot for scale too.

Many years back I did some work on the lower lighthouse, The other lighthouse is on Flat Holm an island mid Bristol Channel!

Same place as Carol's picture! It is nice in B&W!
And it is a very nice picture for World Photography Day!

B&w is a great choice, it emphasizes the patterns in the sand.. The people look small against the lighthouse and the vast sands.

You say "Changing the date of world photography day may be a help" - well, you'd have to go back in history and change the date the french government released the patent for the Daguerreotype to the world *smile*. Beside, wasn't it kind of fun to try and figure out how to make a good photo with the constraint of a specific day?

I've never seen a lighthouse like the one you show us here. And never one that isn't always surrounded by water. Are lighthouses like this one common where you are?
