Standing Stones
I am working my way though the archives, and intend to post the odd item from time to time, I have now reached 2019,
This is the Cleitir Stone Circle also called Callanish 8 which is just over the bridge to Great Bernera Island, Outer Hebrides. The waterway is Loch Rog,
An investigation in 2010 concluded that the stones form a solar observatory and the tallest stone is 9 ft high

Roger (Grisly) club has replied to Malik Raoulda clubRoger (Grisly) club has replied to Jaap van 't Veen clubThis one is fascinating......the stone look amazing considering how long they've been there and there's something very spiritual about them. The fit into the surrounding landscape beautifully.
I supposed we'll never know for certain why they are there and what they were used for but for me that just adds to the charm.
A cracking shot sir!
The tallest stone is around 9ft tall and an investigation in 2010 concluded that the stones form a solar observatory believed to be from between 3000 BC and 2000 BC,
Great Bernera has many of these sites and more images will follow in due course
