Thanks, Steve, especially for acquainting me with Sutcliffe. A brilliant photographer, and one who was excommunicated for a single photograph. Quite the lad. Then Edward VII, also quite the lad but also head of the church that excommunicated him, bought a copy of it.

He could have avoided excommunication if he'd agreed to remove the photo from public view, but he wouldn't. He seems to have been excommunicated only at the church he attended, but it's still an interesting story.

Florida is one place they'd be unacceptable. You may recall that in 2023 an elementary school principal there was forced to resign because she failed to inform parents of a grade 5 class that the class was going to be shown a slide of Michelangelo's David. The school board chairman called the statue controversial. Peut-être qu'aux États-Unis rien ne change jamais.
