Point Edward, Ontario

Point Edward, Ontario
Buying chips under the Bluewater Bridge, which runs from Point Edward to Port Huron, Michigan, on the other side of the St. Clair River. At the moment only essential traffic is allowed across it.

This view is from the Canadian side to the American.

Please try the larger view (type Z).

A great composition of the bridge, John. I take it the travel restriction is because of the virus?

Thanks, George. Yes, the restriction is because of the virus. The States is keen to re-open the border but Canada is having none of it.

Nicely composed in lovely light...........I like the detail in the bridge and it looks very impressive against the sky. A nice glimpse of the US and Canadian flags in the background.

It seems like an odd place to set up a catering van...........but I suppose the demand must be there or they wouldn't bother.

Thanks, Keith. This is part of a large park, so there is opportunity for a chip wagon. And chips are a central part of southwestern Ontario culture, and this is a highly popular wagon. People drive out of their way to get to it. I've eaten chips in England and Belgium, and to my mind Souwesto chips are up there with the best.

Ah, yes, Canada does not want us for now, and I don't blame it one bit. We are not covering ourselves with glory on this occasion, except in alternate reality. But the idea of some really good chips is mouth-watering, as I haven't had any for months, save one batch from MacDonald's which were almost cold and soggy when I got them home. Ah, well - someday.

It's not just Americans, Bob. Canadians aren't even being allowed to travel from province to province or to the territories. The "Atlantic bubble" (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador) only just recently allowed their citizens to travel within the bubble from province to province. Any other Canadians have to self-isolate for 14 days when they arrive. I believe the Northwest Territories and Nunavut are still closed to outsiders. You can go to the Yukon if you're from BC, I think.

Looked at the location on Google map, which of course, also provides info on food.
The fries don't get a good review, so you aren't missing much. McDonalds might be more reliable -- just don't wait to eat them until you get home. (No, I'm not touting McDonalds, haven't set foot in one in decades.)

The distribution of ratings is suspiciously bimodal, Sarah, as on a lot of review sites. My speculation is either that competitors are posting negative reviews or that only people with negative opinions aremore likely to post. Anyway, the main complaint seems to be that the food has gone downhill because of a change of owners. The people I was with were happy, though (I didn't have any myself). The chips are in classic local style -- thick-cut and fried in beef fat. Perhaps some of the reviewers prefer the McDô style -- skinny and fried in oil. Fair enough. You don't get that style at this place.

I really love both: greasy chips (not as main diet) and these steel constructions of the bridges. Good match of light and shadow, very well taken - and the couple left, I suppose, took a good portion of freshly made salad at the trailer ... ??

Thanks, Leon. I didn't have any chips myself; have to watch my boyish figure. Luckily I've spent most of my life in Toronto, so I never acquired the poutine habit -- adding gravy and cheese curd to chips is just asking for it.
