Davey Place, Norwich

Davey Place, Norwich
In the background is Norwich Castle. The stone keep was built around the turn of the 12th century. It replaced a timber keep built in 1067 (Norwich was one of the largest cities in England then, and soon after his invasion William acted to secure it).

Still very much the same today John except that Maplin has closed now purely an on-line business.

I hadn't heard about Maplin, David, so thanks for letting me know. This was taken in 2015, when I believe they had over 200 stores, so the news is surprising to a casual visitor to England. I actually made a couple of purchases in the branch shown here, and had a good impression of it.

An interesting contrast in buildings, but I don't think I'll take up the suggestion in the sign and build my own.

There's probably a DIY store somewhere that has a kit, George. It could be easier than you think.

Well-constructed ... the keep and the layers of the old, the new, and the not-so-new in this photograph.
The vertical frame is perfect for this, and it makes me wonder why you don't use it more often, given your love of architecture.

I was surprised to find, on checking, that I don't shoot portrait orientation as often as I thought I did, Sarah. Fewer than a quarter of the photos on my first three pages aere vertical.

I seem to be taking more of them than that. Maybe I'm just no good at them, so they don't get uploaded.

This is a photo I took in June 2017 from the Castle looking in the direction to where you were standing.

Thanks, David. I should think that's a great spot to get photos of buses. I have the impression that there's a good variety of bus traffic along Castle Meadow.

I have some photos taken from the bailey of the castle, too. I'll look them out and see if there are any buses in them.
