The Standoff

The Standoff
A white rhinoceros walking down the middle of the dirt road encountered a safari van heading the other way. There was a brief stand off until the van backed up and pulled to the side of the road to let the rhinoceros pass. Animals have the right of way in the Kenyan National Parks.

This a story with tear and laughter; the situation looks very odd, but also shows that the territory for the rhino is shrinking. It makes me wonder if rhino's in nature walk on the left or right side of the road. Another great catch!

The driver is on the wrong side of the road (not that the rhino would know). Rhinos walk where ever they want to go. They could do serious damage to the safari vehicle, and vice versa, so it was good that both parties showed restraint.

Great capture! We had a little showdown with a couple of young bull elephants (Kreuger National Park). We just stayed parked and didn't move. Once they left and we started breathing again, we realized we had taken some powerful photos.
