New Zealand fur seals
New Zealand Fur seals on Kangaroo Island, Australia. Commercial hunting almost eradicated New Zealand fur seals from Kangaroo Island in the 1800's. They have rebounded to nearly 100,000 and pose a threat to penguins and fish stock.
Fur seals, like sea lions, are members of the eared seal family (otariid). They differ from true seals (phocidae) in a number of ways, including having external ears, using their front flippers predominantly to swim and by being able to walk on all four flippers.
