sploring...

Playing around with trying to re-trace our morning 'splore on google maps... and it's official: according to the label on the map, when we were wandering around trying to find our way back to a road (other than retracing our path, which is ultimately what we had to do) we were, in fact, (fsvo) lost in the Wilderness. :)

(the straight-line approximation of our route came out to a bit over 2.5 miles; but very few of those segments were actually straight lines - there was a lot of being pulled in circles as Sophie was following Interesting Smells, and that kind of whale-shaped bit - mostly uphill to the curved bit of the "tail" - was all twisting and turning and upping and downing, mostly following a sort of trail. and then we circled the house diagonally acroos the street a couple of times both on the way out and on the way back, because Sophie's friends - the Big Scary Guard Dogs who usually run up to the fence to play with her - were too sensible to be out on a cold damp morning... pretty sure our *actual* wander was closer to the three miles i guessed when we got home. the plan, when we went out for pre-breakfast walkies (me still in my jammies, of course) was just a quick walk around the block because cold rainy morning; but Sophie had other ideas... :) )
